My take on a question in Quora:
The best way to understand "have discernment" is to imagine this scenario painted by me:
You are a high-powered business executive, happily married with two kids, enjoying your chosen moments of solitude and quietude with a nice drink, in the still of the night, at the lobby bar of a 7-star hotel in, say Dubai. You are in Dubai for the first time attending a business conference.
Suddenly, a nice sexy-looking lady comes to sit next to you. After ordering her drink, she exchanges some pleasantries with you.
A short while later, she hints to you she is available for the night, and she even adds that she has a room by herself upstairs in the hotel.
You politely turns her down by saying that your wife is expecting you upstairs, even though you know very well that your wife is in Singapore.
The lady excuses herself, and remarks to you, "Your wife is a very lucky woman!"
Man, you have discernment!
In its simplest definition, discernment is nothing more than the ability to decide between right and wrong. At the core, discernment means acuteness of judgment.
[Note: My scenario has been inspired by this actual scene in the entertaining and yet poignant movie, 'The Bucket List', starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.]
