According to the US National Science Foundation, it's estimated that our mind produces as many as 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts in a day.
Dr Deepak Chopra, well-known holistic health guru and alternative medicine practitioner, thinks that about 95% of these thoughts are the same thoughts as yesterday's.
We should therefore, do our best, to take up a proactively combinatorial role in our lives to ensure that our daily thoughts are productive in creating positive outcomes in our lives, failing which we will only create miseries for ourselves.
As ancient sages have exhorted, we are what we think, and thoughts are the architects of our destiny.
Here are some simple and quick ideas to move forward with a positive outlook in life:
Take full responsibility for your life; Decide what you want in life and work out a strategy/plan; Be grateful for what you already have; Talk to and/or mix around with positive folk; Be happy, don't worry, and always smile; Have time-out, and do relaxation sequences; Read inspiring books or quotes; Render random kindness to others wherever possible;

PURSUING A POSITIVE OUTCOME: ATTITUDE LEADS TO ACTION
We have free will to choose where we stand.
In the final analysis, we are what we think, not what we think we are.
In the past, the gap between thought and action was often very long. This was affordable. Today, it takes one-eighth of a second for a signal to travel from one end of the globe to the other.
Competition has become more real than ever. Yet, technology enables it to be invisible, inscrutable, and intangible.
How do we meet the demands of a fuzzy ‘marketspace’?
We need top quality thinking, expression of feelings, and the cultivation of an attitude that is in sync with the electronic agility that defines our daily actions and interactions.
Arithmetic addressing the outcome of human thought and behaviour has been encapsulated in an ‘attitude calculation’ devised by Michele Matt Yanna of Trainers Group Inc.
Adapting her formula to our subject, as depicted on the preceding page, it is easy to see how we become what we think.
Our energies should be directed towards constructive action.
Wishful thinking needs to be superceded by willful doing.
There’s no way we can win the lottery if we don’t buy a ticket.
Luck can be leveraged, like anything else. And if there is a way for us to predict the outcome of our thoughts, feelings, and attitudes, our journeys would receive the illumination to guide us safely through our lives.
We have an infinite capacity for spectacular accomplishments. Yet most of us fail to draw on this reservoir and so ‘don’t realise our potential.’ We can calculate the potential results of the computation between our thoughts, feelings, and attitudes, in the following manner:
· Consider a specific situation that you need to deal with at present.
· Your “perception” about the situation is made up of your “thoughts” and “feelings.”
Assign a value between 1 and 10 to each of these two items. For example, you may give say, 6 to ‘thoughts’ and 3 to ‘feelings.’
· Add these two numbers (values) to each other to obtain a total of 6 + 3 = 9.
· Now multiply the above total by your attitude towards the situation. Assign a value between –10 and +10. Thus, say you score “attitude” with a –5, then the product emerges as:
(Thoughts + Feelings) x Attitude = Outcome
In our example, this works out to: (6+3) x (-5) = -45. This means that the action you are expected to take is pretty negative, and the outcome may not be in your favour. You should perhaps reconsider your options, and possibly defer acting on the situation until the scenario looks considerably better.
An “attitude” score of zero means that you are passive or neutral about the situation. This means that there is a great possibility you will not act on the matter, or that there could be an indifferent outcome from your actions.
Naturally, you would wish for a score as high as possible.
This correlates with the outcome of your actions being proportionately more satisfying and enjoyable.

THE PERFORMANCE GRID & THE POWER OF POSITIVE EXPECTANCY
It is not good enough to be gifted in a particular domain. If your thinking does not support your talent, the outcome will be negative!As can be seen in the performance grid above, the only instance where there is a positive outcome is when your 'present ability' is complemented by a 'positive expectation'.
Dare to experiment and know that 'failure' is not defeat but an outcome from which infinite opportunities are born.

I like to call it the attitude of 'positive expectancy'.
It's an absolutely crucial factor toward the accomplishment of any personal, worthwhile goal. It's the mindset that you can do your personal best, and you will attain the results you want.
In a nut shell, if your personal outlook or belief system is positive, and you genuinely demand as well as expect the best for yourself, you are certainly going to realize greater personal fulfillment.
This does not mean that your pursuit will always be a breeze, just because you positively expect that outcome. But, 'positive expectancy' begets positive results.
For me, it actually boils down to making a powerful choice: 'positive expectancy' or 'negative expectancy'.
Unconsciously, your mind and thoughts decide all your actions. Repetition of thoughts creates greater presence of those same thoughts. If you think of abundance constantly, you will find prosperity in your life. So, you need to fuel your mind with positive feelings of having plenty, so to speak.
This is focusing your mind and making a conscious effort to think positively and prosperously.
Hence, the one who practices the attitude of 'positive expectancy' becomes proficient at turning problems and challenges into solutions; obstacles and adversity as opportunities for learning.
The depth of your personal wealth, prosperity and excellence greatly depends upon your steadfast commitment to your 'positive expectancy'.
Generally, there are 7 important aspects that contribute to 'positive expectancy':
1. Decide precisely what you want in life;
2. Imagine vividly the outcomes you so desire;
3. Sincerely believe in your life pursuits;
4. Enthusiastically act upon what you have set out to do;
5. Monitor your progress & make changes where necessary;
6. Follow through relentlessly;
7. Stay focused on your ultimate goals, but remain flexible in your approach;
