I have spotted the following questioning technique - called the 10:10 technique - while browsing various productivity weblogs on the net. [Here's the link to the original source].I thought it's a great technique for instant rapport building, at least in some ways.
It goes like this:
Pose this question to your colleague or your subordinate or maybe, even your boss:
"On a scale of 1 to 10, how do you rate my performance, or response, or solution...?"
If the rating is low, pose a follow-up question:
"What would I need to do for you to rate me a 10?"
