Interestingly and to my pleasant delight, in the classic, University of Success, by Og Mandino, there's an entire chapter touching on the topic of how to develop your strength to seize opportunity, and also mentioning Dr Maxwell Maltz as the instructor.

I like to recap the salient points as shared by Dr Maltz in terms of his five secrets to seizing opportunities:

1. Keep an eye on the red light ... or your mental dashboard that stops you from moving towards opportunities. Always try to get rid of negative thoughts and feelings while driving towards your goals.

2. Live in the present ... "the present is real, and your opportunities are right now."

3. Stop belittling yourself ... just accept yourself as you are. You won't see opportunities, and yourself as deserving to walk towards and grab hold of them, unless you stop tearing down your self-image and self-esteem.

4. Try to set constructive goals .... goals that will be able to help the masses. Set them quietly, with a certain purpose, then move into them without sounding a trumpet.

5. Stand up to crisis ... for every crisis is an opportunity in disguise. A problem that needs to be solved.

I strongly recommend reading the book, or at least Chapter 8, so as to get the full treatment on the topic. It will be worth your while.
